After a break-in

• Report it to the police and keep the report number.
• Photograph forced doors, frames, windows and locks before anything is repaired.
• Keep receipts for emergency boarding, lock changes and anything you replace.

Lock requirements

Some home and contents policies set requirements for deadlocks or window locks. Check your policy wording before choosing a lock.

Claim

Notify your insurer as your policy requires. A locksmith can describe the damage and the work done; they do not replace your claim or give legal advice.
